Top high schooler Emoni Bates has committed to Michigan State but that may not be where he ends up.
Instead, according to Brandon Quinn of The Athletic, Bates may head to the G League, where he would play for the G League Ignite, a franchise that specializes in preps-to-pros prospects.
“Of all the sources interviewed for this story, those existing in and out of the Bates camp, no one seems to believe Emoni will play at Michigan State,” Quinn reported. “Instead, Bates most likely will wait for a professional contract, probably the most lucrative deal the G League can muster, and turn professional before heading to the NBA.”
Bates, 17, is a 6-foot-8 small forward and widely considered the nation’s best high school player. He is a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., and currently playing at Ypsi Prep Academy in Ypsilanti. He has been named AP Division 1 Player of the Year and Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons.
