Joel Embiid‘s best season as a pro continues and while some believe he’s behind the MVP race because of his time missed, the big man doesn’t share those sentiments.
“There’s no doubt (I’m MVP). I’ve been dominant all season. I’m not going to stop,” Embiid told Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Embiid added that criticism from Shaquille O’Neal in the past has fueled him, telling Charania that the Shaq “opened my eyes to actually realize that I can be that guy.”
The former No. 3 overall pick is averaging a career-high 30.1 points per game while leading the league with a 31.8 player efficiency rating. Embiid is currently only behind Nikola Jokic in the race for MVP, according to Oddsmakers (+320 at PointBet).
More From Philadelphia
- Matisse Thybulle‘s defense is getting a little more recognition lately with so many Sixers out of the lineup and coach Doc Rivers told FortyEightMinutes and other media in Philadelphia that he doesn’t think there are 10 defenders in the better than the 24-year-old, adding that there “might not be five.” Rivers touched on Thybulle again on Thursday before the Bucks game, comparing Thybulle’s ability to close out to Deion Sanders’ coverage of wideouts in the NFL.
- The Sixers will bring back Anthony Tolliver on another 10-day deal and it comes as no surprise. The 35-year-old forward hasn’t seen much run in Philadelphia, appearing in only one game during the first 10-day deal. However, he’s been a great fit in the locker room and provides the team with much-needed depth.
- ICYMI: Ben Simmons opened up about his Sixers’ teammates and his relationship with the media in a lengthy interview.
