The Brooklyn Nets have been on an absolute tear ever since they made the trade for James Harden in January. They are currently on top of the Eastern Conference despite missing Kevin Durant for much of the season.
Harden’s been actively setting the table for all of his teammates to get involved on offense as evidenced by not only leading the league in assists per game but also being among the leaders in passes made per game.
In 25 games between the months of February and March, “The Beard” has averaged 26.7 points, 11.1 assists and 9.3 rebounds per game, which has allowed Brooklyn to go 19-6 in those games despite missing Durant for most of that stretch. Harden won Player of the Month honors for both months.
Harden is currently second in the Basketball-Reference NBA MVP Award tracker, but his teammate, Kyrie Irving is also currently ranked fifth on that list.
Irving is averaging over 25 points per game on 50/40/90 shooting splits, which is something only Durant, Stephen Curry and Larry Bird have ever accomplished. Being on a short list with those names alone should put him in the conversation.
Beyond the numbers, it’s been Irving’s knack to score the ball in a multitude of ways that have given opposing defenses a headache on a nightly basis.
