Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving will miss at least the next three games to attend to a family matter, as relayed by Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Each of the Nets’ next three games are on the road.
“Irving won’t accompany the Nets to Portland, Utah or Detroit, the team announced Monday afternoon,” Lewis wrote. “The Nets cited only a ‘family matter,’ and an Irving spokesperson did not immediately return inquiries.”
Along with Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets will also be without guard Landry Shamet, who suffered a sprained ankle in Sunday’s win over the Washington Wizards. ESPN reported that Shamet’s MRI came back “clean.”
Irving turns 29-years old Tuesday. He missed seven straight games in January for personal reasons. He is averaging 28.1 points and 5.7 assists on the season.
Durant is expected to miss a minimum of another week with a hamstring strain.
The Nets (29-14) are in second place in the Eastern Conference, a game behind the Philadelphia 76ers.
