Lonzo Ball could be elsewhere after the trade deadline and his anticipated next contract is part of the calculus. The former No. 2 overall pick will be a restricted free agent, meaning the Pelicans could match any offer he receives. However, they don’t seem willing to bring him back on too lucrative of a deal.
Ball is seeking a contract that will pay him $20 million annually, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. The Knicks are among the teams that have had discussions with the Pelicans on the former UCLA star, though there’s no word on what figure New York would be comfortable paying.
Ball has expanded his game since coming into the league, as he’s shooting a career-high 7.8 three-pointers per game (also making a career-high 38.5% of them).
