The Lakers had a great Tuesday night, handily winning a contest over the Rockets which sent Houston into a tailspin that may ultimately lead to James Harden being traded. Los Angeles improved to an NBA-best 9-3 and LeBron James apparently won a bet on this gem of a three-pointer.
“I told him to bet a Benjamin on it, so he shot it,” Dennis Schroder said after L.A.’s 117-100 win (via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “Shot it and turned around and said, ‘Bet.’ Then it went in. It’s just legendary.”
James’ side of the story is even more remarkable, as the four-time MVP explains that he took the wager while in the act of shooting.
“I took the bet while I was still shooting the ball,” James said. “A bet isn’t official until you look a man in the eye, so I had to look him into the eye, and I was able to win that.”
James went 4-for-9 from behind the arc in the contest, though none in the game (or possibily in this season) will top the shot that won his wager.
“Everybody had fun,” Schroder said. “Everybody was talking about it, even during timeouts. It was just a hell of a play.”
