The Sixers are reportedly the frontrunners to land DeAndre Jordan after the Lakers waived the veteran center.
It appears that Philadelphia will wait to sign Jordan outright as a free agent rather than put a waiver claim in for him. The big man inked a one-year, $2.6 million deal with the Lakers during the offseason and if the Sixers claim him, they’d be on the hook for the pro-rated remainder of that contract.
Philadelphia has an open roster spot, so once Jordan clears waivers, they won’t need to make a corresponding move to bring him on board.
As for the Lakers, they opted to move on from Jordan in order to bring on DJ Augustin.
Players waived after Tuesday (3/1) won’t be eligible to play in the postseason, so expect the next 24 hours to be a busy news cycle in regard to teams’ shuffling the end of their rotations.
