Video recently surfaced of Kyrie Irving, who remains away from the Nets, hanging out with a large group of people and no mask on during his sister’s birthday party. The NBA is currently investigating the matter and the Nets put out a statement via their general manager, Sean Marks, stating that they are reviewing the matter as well and that Irving will have the opportunity to explain himself.
“Kyrie will have the opportunity to address his absence when he is ready to do so,” Marks said.
Multiple outlets had reported that Irving’s personal leave was due to frustration over social issues, coming in the wake of the events in Washington D.C. last week.
While the league will look into the video, it’s unclear whether they will take any action. The Nets may act swifter, as Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Irving could lose roughly $410K for each game he misses if the team finds that he broke the NBA’s COVID-19 protocol.
In the video, it appears Irving was out with his sister, Asia, who turned 30 earlier in the week.
Irving will miss his fourth-straight game on Tuesday night and there’s no timetable for him to return to the court.
