Grizzlies star Ja Morant left Monday’s game against the Nets with what appeared to be a very serious injury.
The former No. 2 overall pick was defending a shot from Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and he came down on his left ankle awkwardly. Morant was unable to put weight on his ankle and Memphis’ training staff removed him from the court in a wheelchair.
Fortunately, the team reports that Morant’s injury is a left ankle sprain and not something more serious.
The severity of the ankle sprain, whether it’s a high ankle sprain or a regular one, remains to be seen. In the Grizzlies’ first two games of the season, Morant averaged 36.0 points, 8.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
