The Los Angeles Lakers came into Sunday’s game against the Golden State Warriors looking to make a statement. And make a statement is exactly what they did.
The Lakers beat the brakes off of the Warriors 117-91 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Lakers now improve to a 24-11 record on the season. This record is good for second place in the Western Conference. It’s also good for second overall in the entire NBA.
The Lakers played an overall balanced game. A lot of players contributed for the Lakers, which is a great sign. Especially with Anthony Davis out until after the All-Star break. Coach Frank Vogel felt elated about the win and let the media know about it.
“Our starters played terrific,” Vogel said. “They had a mindset to make sure they took care of business against a team that stole one from us the last time.”
Taking care of business and playing with a sense of urgency was heavy on the conscience of the team. Especially with their recent four-game losing skid. The Lakers are determined to avoid that again if possible.
LeBron James led the way with 19 points in just 24 minutes of play. He let the media know his thoughts on where the team currently stands and its mindset.
“When you lose a mega piece like AD, it is going to take some time offensively and defensively on how we want to play. Over the last couple of games, we have done a good job,” said James, who’s the 23rd player in NBA history to appear in at least 1,300 regular-season games.
The NBA season is a grind. The Lakers are looking to never get too high, and never get too low either. They are 35 games into this regular season with 37 more to go. They know what they need to do to repeat as NBA champions. Now the execution portion comes. With victories like Sunday night, they are well on their way.
