Los Angles Lakers star LeBron James is expected to miss at least two weeks with a high ankle sprain, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
James suffered the injury during Saturday’s home loss to the Atlanta Hawks and didn’t return to the game after doing so. The Lakers, of course, have already been without the injured Anthony Davis (calf strain). Like LeBron, Davis expected to miss at least another two weeks.
Obviously, James’ absence is a major blow for the defending champs, who at 28-15 sit in third place in the Western Conference. They are also just 2.5 games in front of the six-place Portland Trail Blazers.
The Lakers have lost two straight and four of their previous 10.
“Nothing angers and saddens me more than not being available to and for my teammates! I’m hurt inside and out right now,” James tweeted. “The road back from recovery begins now. Back soon like I never left.”
James, 36, is averaging 25.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.9 assists. He has missed just one full game this season. But clearly, multiple more are on the way.
