The New York Knicks are among the teams with Los Angeles Lakers point guard Dennis Schroder on their radar, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv.
Schroder is eligible for free agency at the end of the season. He is just one of several veteran guards the Knicks are expected to consider, with the New Orleans Pelicans’ Lonzo Ball being another, as Begley wrote.
Schroder, 27, is in his first season with the Lakers, and per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, recently rejected an offer on a four-year contract extension. Schroder has indicated he would like to remain in LA, though the sides are said to be far apart in money discussions.
“New York will have enough cap space to make Schroder a competitive offer in free agency,” Begley wrote. “The club is projected to have at least $50 million in cap space in the 2021 offseason.”
The Knicks are also expected to “re-engage” in talks involving Ball during the summer — meaning the sides have already discussed a potential Ball trade, Begley noted.
Current Knicks point guards Elfrid Payton, Derrick Rose and Frank Ntilikina will all be free agents at the end of the season.
