Free agent point guard Jeremy Lin has joined the G-League Ignite team for a couple of scrimmages later this week, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Scrimmages will take place against a team made up of G-League veterans.
Lin lives near the team’s practice facility in Walnut Creek, Calif., and has already practiced with the squad, coached by former NBA point guard and head coach Brian Shaw. Lin practiced Tuesday and will do so again Thursday.
Lin, 32, is 6-foot-3 and spent part of last season with the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association. He won an NBA championship as a member of the Toronto Raptors in free agency.
The Ignite also features preps-to-pros prospects such as Jalen Green, Daishen Nix and Jonathan Kuminga and are expected to participate in the G-League bubble in Atlanta next month. It seems unlikely that Lin will join them there.
Lin is hoping to latch on with an NBA team before the season — but those prospects appear to be dwindling with the season due to tip off late next week.
Givony tweeted out rosters of each team taking part in the scrimmage.
One last minute addition on the G League Ignite roster: Nine-year veteran and NBA champion Jeremy Lin (wearing #3), who lives locally and has been practicing/lending his experience this past week. He’ll stay with the team in a practice player capacity for as long as he chooses. https://t.co/8Ws4nxCYZs
