Hornets forward Gordon Hayward is day-to-day after suffering a broken pinky finger on his right hand during Monday’s preseason game against the Raptors, the team announced.
Hayward will miss Thursday’s preseason game, also against the Raptors.
On the bright side, the injury isn’t likely to require surgery, as relayed by Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.
“It’s expected Hayward can play whenever he’s comfortable to do so, as far as pain tolerance and performing effectively,” Bonnell wrote. “Hayward shoots with his right hand.”
Hayward was the Hornets’ big offseason acquisition, arriving in a sign-and-trade with the Celtics. He’s had quite an extensive injury, though this one doesn’t sound as if it will keep him out for an extended period.
A 10-year veteran, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward carries career averages of 15.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
