Charlotte was among the teams considered by Andre Drummond after a contract buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Hornets seem to be hopeful Drummond will consider them again.
Drummond has signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, but on a rest-of-season, expiring deal for the veteran’s minimum. So he will presumably be available during the offseason, and the Hornets will again contemplate trying to land him again, per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
Basically, the Hornets are looking for an upgrade at center, something Drummond would undoubtedly offer. But their explorations aren’t limited to Drummond.
Per Fischer, they also discussed a package of center Cody Zeller and forward P.J. Washington with the Indiana Pacers for center Myles Turner. Zeller has an expiring contract, giving the Hornets reason to monitor other options. They also have an interest in Los Angeles Lakers big man Montrezl Harrell and Sacramento Kings forward/center Richaun Holmes.
But Drummond appears to be the man in the middle the Hornets will covet most.
“The premise of playing with a pass-first floor general like LaMelo Ball was a particularly intriguing opportunity for Drummond,” Fischer wrote, citing sources. “Charlotte brass maintain a hope Ball will return this season from his fractured wrist, and the Hornets could have paired Drummond with the Rookie of the Year favorite for a postseason run before determining whether or how much they’d like to pay Drummond when he reaches free agency this summer.”
