John Collins is unlikely to be traded by the Atlanta Hawks ahead of the March 25 deadline, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
“John Collins, I think, is unlikely to leave Atlanta,” Wojnarowski said. “I don’t think they can find value on a rookie contract for him. They’re 6-0 since Nate McMillan took over as head coach. I think they can figure out John Collins’ future.”
The Hawks are loaded with guys who can play the power forward and center position, as they signed Danilo Gallinari and drafted Onyeka Okongwu over the offseason, leading to speculation that they could look to move on from Collins.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been linked to the 6-foot-9 forward, as their ideal scenario would be to pair him with Karl-Anthony Towns as a powerful duo inside the paint.
If the Hawks don’t trade Collins, then it’ll likely take a near max-contract for them to retain him for the long-term future.
