If the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to move point guard Patrick Beverley, they may be out of luck.
Or so say several opposing NBA executives interviewed by Andrew Grief of the Los Angeles Times.
“Each executive said Patrick Beverley would prove most difficult to get value from in any potential trade because of inconsistent health and a contract that will pay him $27 million over the next two seasons,” Grief reported. “That contract, one executive said, was a ‘negative’ that could require the Clippers to attach draft picks in any deal.”
Overall, executives interviewed for the piece suggested that moving Beverley would be difficult.
That said, it’s hard to know what the Clippers’ plans are for Beverley. He has been mentioned in trade rumors, some perhaps accurate, some otherwise.
The Clippers do love his defense, his leadership and his outspoken nature that always proves supportive of his team. He also did average 7.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season, shooting 43 percent from the floor.
But he is far from a typical point guard, and the Clippers may be seeking one as they enter their first season with Tyronn Lue as coach.
Beverley has two years left on his contract. He’s due to make $13.3 million this season and $14.3 next.
Power forward Serge Ibaka and shooting guard Luke Kennard (via trade) are the Clippers’ most notable offseason additions so far.
