Cavaliers small forward Taurean Prince has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle, the team announced in a release.
Prince has been experiencing issues with the ankle on and off since being acquired in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. He seemingly was hoping to hold off and have the surgery in the offseason. But he and the Cavs opted to move up the procedure, highly likely putting an end to his season.
Prince, 27, is 6-foot-7 and was acquired by the Cavs, along with center Jarrett Allen, in a Jan. 23 trade with the Brooklyn Nets. He fared well in his 29 games in Cleveland, averaging 10.1 points and 3.7 rebounds.
When healthy, Prince served as the primary backup to starting rookie Isaac Okoro. That role has since returned mostly to Cedi Osman. Prince has one year and $13 million left on his contract.
The Cavs offered no timetable as to when he may return, saying only that he’s out “indefinitely.” But it is safe to assume Prince is out for the remainder of the season, which ends May 16.
