The Cleveland Cavaliers intend to sign free agent forward/center Mfiondu Kabengele to a 10-day contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Kabengele, 23, is 6-foot-9 and was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers out of Florida State with the No. 27 overall pick in 2019. The Clippers traded him to the Sacramento Kings late last month, and the Kings waived him so thereafter.
Kabengele has appeared in just 23 games over two seasons, but entered the league known for his athleticism, defense and rebounding, and the Cavs will give him an opportunity to become a high-energy big off the bench. As a member of the G League’s Agua Caliente Clippers, Kabengele recorded 38 points and 12 rebounds on Jan. 19, 2020, vs. the Stockton Kings.
