The Cavaliers have hired longtime NBA assistant and former guard Sidney Lowe as an assistant to coach J.B. Bickerstaff. Lowe previously was an assistant with the Cavs in the late 1990s, under then-coach Mike Fratello, though the 61-year-old most recently served as an assistant with the Pistons.
Lowe has also served as an assistant with the Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Jazz, and Wizards. He compiled a 79-228 as head coach of the Timberwolves and Grizzlies in a combined four seasons and eight games.
The Cavs had several other candidates on their radar, per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, including Lloyd Pierce (joined Rick Carlisle with Pacers), David Fizdale (joined Frank Vogel with Lakers), Chad Forcier (joined Mike Budenholzer with the Bucks), Steve Clifford (joined Steve Nash and Nets as a consultant) and Jamahl Mosley (new Magic head coach).
