The Cavaliers own three picks in the upcoming draft, though most of the attention is on what Cleveland will do with the No. 14 selection.
In Jonathan Givony’s latest mock draft, the Cavaliers take Malaki Branham with the selection. The Ohio State product has been getting some lottery buzz and the shooting guard should be able to help Cleveland on the wing, which is an area where they will look to add depth this offseason.
Cleveland could opt to bring in veterans on the wing and utilize No. 14 to bring in talent elsewhere on the roster. We examined how Cleveland could benefit from an outside-the-box strategy by selecting Duke’s Mark Williams in our pre-lottery mock draft.
While there’s been buzz about the Cavaliers trading down, it’s possible that trading up could be in the cards.
The Wizards have been linked to Collin Sexton, though Washington would have a difficult time carving out the cap space necessary to sign Sexton outright. Even if they were to figure out that equation, Cleveland has the ability to match any offer sheet, so it’s likely that a sign-and-trade would be needed.
Who says no to a Sexton (S&T)-Kentavous Caldwell-Pope swap that would also involve the Wizards moving down to No. 14 and Cleveland picking up the No. 10? If Cleveland moves up to No. 10, Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis could be an option for The Land.
