Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham, widely considered a candidate to become the No. 1 overall pick, has declared the 2021 NBA Draft.
This was no surprise, given the buzz surrounding the freshman before he ever even suited up for the Cowboys. He did not disappoint, averaging 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 27 games. That included a 40-point performance in an upset win over Oklahoma.
Cunningham is 6-foot-8 and has drawn comparisons to Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, an ultra-versatile guard who does it all. Fittingly, Doncic is a player Cunnigham emulates.
“Speed, athleticism is definitely a great quality to have, but Luka just knows how to play the game,” Cunningham once told ESPN’s Mike Schmitz. “He knows how to get you leaning one way, give you a move and get to his spots. Somebody that’s tougher to guard than someone that’s super athletic.”
