The Pistons are assured to finish no worse than No. 6 in the upcoming draft lottery but it doesn’t sound like GM Troy Weaver believes any outcome will immediately turn the franchise around.
โThereโs definitely big potential in the top five. Franchise-changing? I donโt know,โ Weaver said (via Rod Beard of the Detroit News). โThereโs no Shaq (Shaquille OโNeal) in this classโฆIโm not looking for someone in the top five to step in and change the franchise.โ
Weaver also spoke about how he didn’t expect major moves for the franchise this offseason. Detroit finished the season with the worst record in the Eastern Conference and only Houston had a worst record overall.

- After initially testing the draft waters, Texas Tech guard Mac McClung has decided to remain in it and forgo his remaining college eligibility, as Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com relays. McClung was a high school standout in Virginia, surpassing Allen Iverson’s state scoring record during his time prior to college.
- Rockets GM Rafael Stone indicated that the team has not yet decided who will represent the team in the draft lottery. This is Houston’s first time in the lottery since the 2011-12 season.
- ย Kyle Boone has Jalen Suggs going No. 3 to the Magic in CBS Sports’ latest mock draft. Assuming Suggs is there when Orlando picks, it’ll be a difficult choice for the franchise given the emergence of Cole Anthony and the presence of Markelle Fultz.
