NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks, Redick, Tucker, Celtics, Aldridge

While there are rumors that the Knicks are on the lookout for a star, though word around the league is that New York won’t make a major splash before the March 25 trade deadline, SNY’s Ian Begley relays. The franchise is more likely to make a smaller move before the end of the month.

“I know they’re looking at all the possibilities,” Tom Thibodeau said of the Knicks’ front office. “If something makes sense for us, we’ll do it. If not, I love the team that we have. I love the guys that we have on the team. We’ll just keep working with what we have and (team president) Leon (Rose) and Wes (senior executive William Wesley), they’re combing the league. (GM) Scott Perry, that’s their job.”

J.J. Redick, who is currently away from the Pelicans, is believed to be among New York’s targets, Begley adds. Redick’s preference is to be traded to the Northeast with his family living in Brooklyn.

The Knicks currently own the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference and they hope to build on that momentum in the second half.

P.J. Tucker has likely played his last game with the Rockets, per ESPN. The 35-year-old has grown “increasingly frustrated and is away from the team as they presumably will look for a trade. Tucker has been linked to the Heat and Lakers among other teams.
Thaddeus Young is rumored to be off the table in trade talks with the Bulls, though he’d a great addition for the Celtics if they can work out a deal, Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports contends. The scribe also names Terrence Ross and Larry Nance Jr. as good fits.
Trading LaMarcus Aldridge could be difficult for the Spurs, ESPN’s Bobby Marks explains on Instagram. The big man’s $24 million salary means San Antonio would have to receive at least $19 million in contract in return (for most teams; the Celtics with their trade exception would change the dynamics) and because the Spurs’ are below the salary cap, they can’t receive more than $25 million back. Marks believes Aldridge’s best fit might be the Suns as a backup to center DeAndre Ayton.
ICYMI: Some around the league believe the Heat are a front-runner for Aldridge. There are rumblings that Miami has interest in pairing Bam Adebayo with a traditional big.
