There were reports of the Mavericks making Kristaps Porzingis available earlier in the week and while Mark Cuban shot those down, teams around the league are keeping an eye on the situation.
The Wizards are among the teams monitoring Porzingis’ status with the Mavericks, a source tells FortyEightMinutes.com. Washington would have interest in the 7-foot-3 big man as a potential third star alongside Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal.
Yet, there’s a sense around the league that Porzingis is not truly available at this time. Porzingis, who is making $29.5 million this season, has three years left on his deal after the 2020-21 campaign and Dallas is committed to configuring the best team around him and Luka Doncic.
Dallas was recently linked to Andre Drummond, as they parse the market for the right center to pair with Porzingis. Making a major splash might not be in the cards for the Mavericks before the deadline, as they have limited draft capital.
The Mavs still owe a pair of first-rounders to the Knicks are part of the deal that sent KP to Dallas — the first of which conveys in 2021; the second is scheduled to convey in 2023 (top-10 protected).
