Kyrie Irving is happy to move off the ball now that James Harden is around to run the point. At least, that’s what one Brooklyn Nets star says he told the other earlier this week.
“We established that, maybe, four days ago now. I just looked at him and I said, ‘You’re the point guard, and I’m gonna play shooting guard,'” Irving said he told Harden. “And that was as simple as that.”
Irving was speaking after the Nets blasted the Golden State Warriors 134-117 in Kevin Durant‘s return. It was such a blowout, the game turned out to be a little more than 48 minutes of garbage time.
Irving scored 23 points, Durant had 20, and Harden more than fulfilled with ball-distribution duties with 19 points and a whopping 16 assists.
“He’s been taking control of responsibilities and doing an incredible job,” Irving said of Harden.
The Nets (16-12) continue their West swing with a visit to the Sacramento Kings on Monday.
“We came out and played a great game,” Durant said of the rout of the Warriors. “We were focused from this morning in shootaround, and it was a good vibe all day.”
