Veteran guard Iman Shumpert will have to wait one-to-two weeks to make his debut with the Brooklyn Nets after suffering a left hamstring strain, coach Steve Nash told reporters.
Shumpert signed with the Nets as a free agent Jan. 31 on a non-guaranteed veteran’s minimum contract. As Bobby Marks of ESPN noted, the guarantee date is Feb. 24. So it will be interesting to see if the Nets hang on to Shumpert or opt to sign another wing.
Shumpert, 30, had been working out in Atlanta as a free agent after spending last season with the Nets.
A close friend of star point guard Kyrie Irving, Shumpert was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2016 championship squad. He has also spent time with the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks.
