Despite the chatter, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Matthew Dellavedova said he has no plans to retire.
“Retirement is not on my mind at all right now,” Dellavedova tweeted Friday. “Only focus is getting healthy and back with the boys to help make a playoff push. Cavs are playing good basketball and I’m definitely looking forward to being a part of what is getting built here.”
Dellavedova, 30, has yet to play a game this season after suffering a concussion during the preseason. A report from The Athletic indicated the injury is so severe that Dellavedova may not return.
“Injuries are frustrating but it’s a temporary setback and I’m looking forward to coming back from this better than before,” he added. “Thank you and appreciate the well wishes.”
Dellavedova re-signed with the Cavaliers in December on a one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum. He had also drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and a handful of others.
He averaged 3.1 points and 3.2 assists in 57 appearances last season.
