Rookie Tyrese Maxey has been a nice addition to the Sixers and part of his growth is a result of him learning from his veteran teammates.
“Picking different guys’ brains like Tobias’ brain, Ben’s brain,” Maxey told reporters. “Those guys have been in the league for a while so they know how it works. They know how it works on and off the court so I’ve been being a sponge and soaking it all in.”
Maxey, who turned 20 back in November, has been called upon at times for Philadelphia. He had a career-high 39 points earlier this year against the Nuggets in a game where the Sixers only had seven healthy players.
Resourcefulness is something that’s valued on the team and in the city of Philadelphia. Maxey embodies that, utilizing his coaching staff to constantly improve.
“They always stay on me. They really helped me. We have a great coaching staff, coach Doc (Rivers), coach Sam Cassell), Dan (Burke), all those guys stay on me, and I really appreciate them. It just makes it like a warm welcome,” the rookie added.
Maxey continues to develop while proving that he belongs on the big stage. On Wednesday night, the No. 20 overall pick will go up against the Hornets, led by No. 3 overall pick LaMelo Ball.
