The Brooklyn Nets have been granted a disabled-player exception following the injury to Spencer Dinwiddie, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Dinwiddie suffered a season-ending ACL injury and underwent surgery earlier this season. The Nets applied to the league for exception several weeks ago.
Per John Hollinger of The Athletic, the exception would be valued at about $5.7 million. The Nets could use it to sign a player for the rest of the season for that amount, or in a trade for a player who’s expiring salary matches that amount.
The exception won’t create an open roster spot, but that’s no problem for the Nets. They are expected to sign center/center Norvel Pelle and will still have two open roster spots even if they do.
“Since the Nets also still have the full taxpayer mid-level exception ($5.718MM) on hand, the DPE may end up being more useful on the trade market,” wrote Luke Adams of HoopsRumors. “Brooklyn will have until April 19 to use it.”
