The Houston Rockets are may be looking to add an additional assistant general manager to work under GM Rafael Stone, according to Emiliano Carchia of Sportando.
Stone is in his first season in the lead GM chair, replacing Daryl Morey, who held the position since 2007. Morey stepped down after the season and is now head of basketball operations with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Carchia did not elaborate on why the Rockets may want another assistant GM or if there are any known candidates. Eli Witus currently serves as executive VP of basketball operations and assistant GM. Many teams have two full-time GMs.
Hiring a second may be helpful to Stone, who hired Stephen Silas as new coach during the offseason and has already pulled off some major trades — beginning with the Russell Westbrook-for-John Wall swap to kick off the season.
Stone also managed to work out a deal to send James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, landing standout guard Victor Oladipo in the process.
It is widely believed that Stone will make a few more roster moves prior to the March 25 deadline.
