The Cavaliers intend to waive center/forward Thon Maker and point guard Yogi Ferrell following a three-team trade with the Nets and Rockets, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
Nets center Jarrett Allen and small forward Taurean Prince are headed to Cleveland as part of the deal. The Cavs are reportedly sending guard Dante Exum, a 2022 first-rounder (via Milwaukee) and 2024 second-rounder to the Rockets.
Maker, 23, is 7-foot-0 and signed a training camp contract with the Cavs in November. He has appeared in eight games and is averaging 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds.
But with Andre Drummond, JaVale McGee, Larry Nance Jr. and Kevin Love (when healthy), Maker wasn’t likely to see the floor more than the limited minutes he’s already getting.
Ferrell, 26, is 6-f0 was signed to a 10-day contract earlier in the week. He has appeared in two games and is averaging 9.5 points.
The decision on Ferrell may mean injured guards Collin Sexton (ankle) and Darius Garland (shoulder) are nearing returns.
