The 76ers found a gem late in the 2020 draft, selecting Tyrese Maxey (No. 21 overall), and while the point guard didn’t display incredible range during his lone season at Kentucky, Doc Rivers & Co. are happy with his progress in that area of his game.
“There’s this narrative out there that the reason he went down in the draft is because people didn’t think he could shoot,” Rivers said after Monday’s game vs. the Hornets. “I haven’t seen a lick of that — I think he’s an excellent shooter. He’ll just keep getting better. Once he’s ready and takes a shot, he’s good. He has great speed. He’s going to be a terrific player for us, so we’re very lucky that he fell to us.”
Maxey made just 1-of-7 three-pointer on seven attempts through his first six games in Philadelphia. He went 2-for-3 on Monday night in 21 minutes of court time.
The rookie has played in every game during the Sixers’ 6-1 start, seeing at least 10 minutes per contest in five games.
