Cavaliers second-year guard/forward Dylan Windler suffered a fourth metacarpal fracture of his dominant left hand during the season-opening win over the Hornets and will be sidelined for at least a week.
Windler suffered the injury in the third quarter after colliding with Hornets forward Gordon Hayward.
The metacarpals are long, thin bones located near the wrist.
Hayward is actually considered a rookie after missing all of last season with a lower leg injury. He is undergoing a spat of dumb luck after having never missed a game during his four seasons as a college player at Belmont. He missed just two during his high school career before that.
Conversely, Hayward suffered the same injury a little more than a year ago as a member of the Celtics. It kept him out 13 games.
Windler scored three points and had two steals in the opener before exiting.
