Nuggets assistant Wes Unseld Jr. has been promoted to associate head coach under Michael Malone, the team announced.
Unseld is entering his sixth season with the Nuggets and has been one of the league’s hottest head-coaching candidates over the past two offseasons.
He interviewed for the Rockets’ job and was reportedly a candidate for the Bulls’ vacancy this past summer.
“Wes is extremely deserving of this promotion. He is one of the hardest working people I’ve come across in this league and he has been an integral part of my coaching staff since we both arrived in Denver in 2015,” Malone said. “I’ve said many times over the years that Wes is ready and deserving of a head coaching position in the NBA and it’s only a matter of time until that day comes.”
Along with the Nuggets, Unseld has spent time as an assistant with the Magic, Wizards and Warriors.
