The Philadelphia 76ers are playing short-handed right now. However, they are banding together and they are on an absolute roll right now. The 76ers defeated the Chicago Bulls at home at the Wells Fargo Center, 103-98. The team has improved to 6-2 overall on the season and 4-1 at home. They are currently second in the NBA’s Eastern Conference and they hold the best home record in the East as well. 76ers Head Coach Doc Rivers spoke on his team’s progression and the things they did well to win the game.
“They’re athleticism got them up into us turn the ball over. It was one of those games where I thought we never had the ball in the right guy’s hands in the second half with the second group. You know what we try to teach them whoever is pressuring you give it to the other guy, and I thought we were trying to fight that tonight. I thought we lost our ball moment for a while. But this was a defensive win it really was. I thought defensively throughout the game we were phenomenal got our hands on a lot of balls. I mean Joel’s block at the end of the game we finally won a challenge which was nice. And then I thought the last three plays and executions was really good overall. You know we got Seth in the right spots. It was good.”
Seth Curry led the way for the 76ers. He scored 22 points on 9-14 shooting from the field. He shot 2-4 from the three-point stripe. He also grabbed five boards and dished out three assists. Curry spoke postgame about his mindset and his growing confidence to be successful on the basketball court.
“Just keeping it simple man. Just trying to tackle at the ball and just trying to move on to the next person. And play some basketball, like Joel said they’re doing a good job at commanding double teams, consecutive screens, playmaking, they led our team in assists tonight so it’s just moving the ball and everybody’s helping each other create good offensive like me. Were down Tobias, obviously Joe and the two guys that create more one on one but everybody else is helping each other get good shots.”
Joel Embiid scored 18 points on 6-18 shooting from the field. He struggled from the field but he made some timely buckets. Including a huge three-point play he made over the Bulls’ Demar DeRozan towards the end of the game. Embiid also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists on the night. Embiid spoke on his shooting struggles postgame but stated that his confidence is still sky high.
“I mean I’m not always looking for excuses, but the ball is different. Still, don’t totally feel comfortable with it, it’s a process. But you know every single day I work hard and make those shots at practice. Last year I mean I was the best midway jumper in the league so at some point it’s going to come back not worried about it. You know every single day I’m going to keep working at it and you know once it goes in and once it comes back you know you mix the offensive ability that I had last year with the defensive presence that I have this year I think we gon’ be much better too.”
