Bam Adebayo has become the Miami Heat franchise leader in double-doubles after securing the feat for the 222nd time against the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
Adebayo, who was selected by the Heat as the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, surpassed Rony Seikaly‘s mark of 221. Seikaly was in the building to see Adebayo cross the threshold.
“I’m so glad to get that record out the way. I’ve been trying to break that record for the past three games and it’s just like the rebounds were just not falling my way. It was just a special moment, because one, [Rony] was here…,” Adebayo told the media, including FortyEightMinutes, after the contest.
“When I got here I wanted to just mark my name in history at some point, whatever that may be, and be able to be a franchise leader in something, I’m blessed to have that.”
Adebayo has been in USA Basketball’s program since he was a teenager and the big man has helped Team USA bring home two gold medals with the most recent coming in the 2024 games in Paris and the other coming in 2020/21 during the Tokyo games.
