The Wizards will be without Rui Hachimura for approximately three weeks as the 2019 No. 9 overall pick has been diagnosed with bi-lateral epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC).
“He has a severe case of pink eye…blurred vision, sensitive to light,” coach Scott Brooks tells FortyEightMinutes and other media members on Monday’s zoom call.
Brooks added that he’s getting better and at this time, it has not spread to any other players on the Wizards.
Washington will play their 11th contest of the season on January 11, so Hachimura will presumably miss at least 10 contests for the Wizards.
More from Washington
- Davis Bertans is a candidate to start for the Wizards at the four, though I’d expect the Wizards to keep the Latvian Laser in his role coming off the bench. Anthony Gill started at the four during the team’s final preseason game and Gill starting again appears to be a likelier option than giving Bertans an alternate role.
- Deni Avdija continues to preach patience “It’s not going to come in one day, I’m not going to score 40 in one day. It’s (about) process,” the rookie said. No official word but it’s looking likely that he’ll start at the three spot to begin the season.
- Ish Smith said that he and new addition Raul Neto have been working together. The two points guards are expected to share the backcourt at times, particularly on nights where Russell Westbrook sits out.
- Smith added that’s he’s confident in the team’s offense this season. “Offense was never our problem last year.” Ish said the team will continue to emphasize playing at a fast pace this season.
