The Wizards are not expecting Russell Westbrook to play in back-to-backs this season given his age, past history, and the condensed nature of the 2020-21 NBA season.
“He’s not a youngster anymore even though he still has as much energy as anybody as I’ve seen,” coach Scott Brooks said via a zoom call with the media over the weekend.
Westbrook sat out back-to-backs last season during his lone season in Houston. The 32-year-old guard is fully healthy, though the Wizards want to keep him fresh, which could be a wise move given the roughly $131 million remaining on his deal.
Washington has seven back-t0-backs in the first half of the NBA schedule. The second half of the NBA schedule has yet to be finalized.
