Memphis Grizzlies center Gorgui Dieng was the subject of multiple trade rumors ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, and there remains a possibility his contract could be bought out.
Dieng, 31, is owed about $16.6 million this season. He is averaging 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 22 appearances.
Grizzlies executive VP of basketball operations Zach Kleiman was asked about Dieng’s status moving forward, and responded that there will be “more to come” on that, per Chris Herrington of the Daily Memphian.
Dieng would of course draw interest as a reserve big man for multiple playoff contenders should the Grizzlies decide to part ways.
More from the West
- The Minnesota Timberwolves were also active at the trade deadline, but exited without making a move. President of basketball operations Gersson Rosas said there was a reason for that. “You don’t make a trade for the sake of making a trade,” Rosas said, via Chris Hine of the Star Tribune. “We haven’t seen this group together enough starting with our best two players and everybody else. That played a big part in it. We want to see what we have in order to make the best-educated decisions we can make.”
- Not surprisingly, the Los Angeles Lakers are shifting their focus to the buyout market, with sights set on Andre Drummond and LaMarcus Aldridge. As we relayed earlier, the Lakers are one of five teams that Drummond with consider. Aldridge will also consider the Lakers, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, along with the Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets and LA Clippers.
- In case you missed it, the Lakers finally allowed fans into Staples Center, starting with their loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday. But don’t get too excited just yet. The “crowd” was limited to 50 people.
