The Golden State Warriors own the No. 2 pick in the draft but maybe not for long.
According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, one of the multiple scenarios involving the Warriors may consist of trading down — with Florida State guard/forward Devin Vassell being the primary target.
“According to multiple league sources, the Warriors believe Vassell is the top wing defender in this draft and would strongly consider him if they trade back to the 5-10 range,” Letourneau reported. “There is an outside chance that Golden State could even take him at No. 2 if it doesn’t receive an enticing offer to move down.”
Vassell is 6-foot-7 and projected to go in the Nos. 10-14 range by most respected mock drafts. He averaged 12.5 points and 5.1 rebounds last season as a sophomore, shooting 49 percent from the field.
As Letourneau noted, Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton even compared Vassell to Warriors guard Klay Thompson, a two-way All-Star on the wing.
“I always tell people that he’s very similar to Thompson,” Hamilton said. “If you look at his shooting stats at Washington State, they’re similar to Devin’s. He’s long, lean, athletic.”
The 2020 NBA Draft will be held virtually and is scheduled for Nov. 18.
