The Portland Trail Blazers have signed Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to a 10-day contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
As Portland is looking to round out its roster ahead of their playoff run, Hollis-Jefferson figures to help bolster their defense, as he can guard every position from 1-5.
According to Narsu and Miller’s data, before the suspension of last season in March, Hollis-Jefferson had a defensive versatility rating of 94.2 which was a result of his aforementioned ability to defend every position on the court. Hollis-Jefferson spent 18.3 percent of his time on point guards, 23.6 percent on shooting guards, 19.3 percent on small forwards, 21.0 percent on power forwards, and 17.7 percent on centers.
In the playoffs, it’s important to have a defender that can guard multiple positions, but Hollis-Jefferson can also provide a little bit of offense as well. In the 2017-18 season, he averaged 13.9 points on 47.8 percent shooting and handed out 2.5 assists per game as a member of the Brooklyn Nets.
The Arizona product was originally drafted by the Trail Blazers with the 23rd pick in the 2015 draft before being dealt to the Nets in exchange for Mason Plumlee.
