The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a two-year contract with guard/forward Derrick Jones Jr., per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Jones, 23, is 6-foot-6 and spent the previous three seasons with the Miami Heat. He is the NBA’s reigning Slam Dunk champion.
Per Charania, Jones’ deal is worth $19 million, the type of money typically reserved for veteran sixth men. So, kudos to agent Aaron Turner, a product of Orange (Ohio) High School.
To top it off, the second year of the contract is a player option, per David Aldridge of The Athletic.
Jones averaged 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 59 games with the Heat last season. He is likely to serve as a backup to small forward Robert Covington, who is arriving via trade with the Houston Rockets.
