Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young says an incident involving forward John Collins during a team film was overblown, as reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
The incident was initially reported by The Athletic in a story focused on the “early growing pains” being suffered by the Hawks. Collins and Young had no back-and-forth, but there was some reported tension after Collins accused Young of clock mismanagement and shooting too early in the offense, per the original report.
But Young indicated no harm, no foul.
“Of course if there’s anything out there publicly, I always go directly to [that person],” Young told Haynes. “As for the John [Collins] incident, me and him talked about it as soon as it got out the next day and we were both confused. It just got out and it was over a regular film session.
“So there’s no beef or anything in there to begin with. There hasn’t been any locker room issues on my side. Anything that people were saying about locker room issues, there hasn’t been one. It’s all about our team and how we’ve been trying to get better in film sessions.”
On the day of the film session, The Athletic reported it received the following text from Collins: “Trae is my brother regardless.”
Young is averaging 26.2 points and 8.8 assists, while Collins is at 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds. The Hawks (9-9) visit the Washington Wizards on Friday night.
