PHILADELPHIA — The Sixers missed out on the P.J. Tucker sweepstakes, though they continue to look for ways to upgrade the team. As we mentioned in the team’s trade deadline primer, Matisse Thybulle is Philadelphia’s most valuable player who has a decent chance to be traded. Thybulle’s played great lately but he isn’t the only member of the club’s second unit turning heads.
Furkan Korkmaz is playing at an all-time high right now, scoring 14.3 points per game over his last seven games while making 51.3% of his triples during that span. I asked Doc Rivers if Korkmaz’s streak has exceeded his expectations.
“I don’t know the answer to that because I have pretty high expectations for him,” River told FortyEightMinutes.com and other media after the game against the Bucks on Wednesday. “…He’s been playing great, he plays with great confidence and that’s what we need out there.”
Korkmaz, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, has seen more run lately—as opposed to earlier in the season when he was replaced by rookie Isaiah Joe in the rotation—and he may get additional run in the coming games with Seth Curry nursing an ankle injury. Still, the Turkish wing remains a logical trade candidate and with the way he’s been playing, the 23-year-old’s value may never be higher.
