Lottery pick Deni Avdija has had a few moments of brilliance in training camp and the preseason, and may be rewarded for it.
According to Wizards coach Scott Brooks, Avdija has a “good chance” to start at small forward already. Brooks added that “it’s still an open competition for the starting spot,” as relayed by Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Either way, it will be an interesting frontcourt for the Wizards. They suddenly seem to have talent and depth at that position — with the likes of Davis Bertans, Rui Hachimura, Avdija and even Troy Brown Jr.
Avdija scored 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting in his first preseason game. It looked as if he were a natural and will fit seamlessly into the NBA.
With the likes of newcomer Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal in the backcourt, and young talents such as the aforementioned and center Thomas Bryant in the frontcourt, the Wizards have suddenly become an intriguing bunch.
