While the Wizards are looking for upgrades ahead of the deadline, though it could be a relatively quiet week regardless of how active Tommy Sheppard & Co. are. It’s going to difficult to add significantly to this year’s team without sacrificing future flexibility, which means minor moves are much more likely.
The franchise continues to shop Troy Brown Jr. The team has already been offered a second-round pick at least one rival club, sources tell FortyEightMinutes.com.
Brown will be eligible for a rookie-scale extension this summer, though Washington doesn’t view the 21-year-old as a major piece going forward. If he remains with the club to the summer, it’s unlikely the two sides work out a deal.
More Wizards Trade Rumors
- Aside from Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook, no one on the Wizards is truly unavailable. Sure, some players, like Rui Hachimura, would take a Kings’ ransom and others, such as Moritz Wagner, could be had a much more reasonable price.
- Davis Bertans is rumored to be available, as NBA reporter Quinton Mayo recently explained, though sources tell FortyEightMinutes that a deal is unlikely. The franchise likes him just as much as it did when it signed him to his five-year, $80 million pact last year.
- The Wizards are actively listening to offers for Robin Lopez. We previously reported that several rival clubs would have interest in the center should the team make him available.
- Washington “is operating as if they got time on their hands,” a rival NBA executive tells Ava Wallace of The Washington Post. The front office’s stance likely coincides with their confidence in a long-term future with Bradley Beal.
