The Sixers have championship aspirations and while the team found success during the first half of the season, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey isn’t one to rest on his laurels. The former Rockets executive led one of the most active front offices in terms of trades during his time in Houston and many around the league expect him to make a move or two before this year’s trade deadline.
One name to watch is P.J. Tucker. The 35-year-old big man has garnered interested from several contenders, including the rival Bucks and Nets, though Philadelphia’s flexibility with picks may give them a leg up in trading for Tucker. Both Milwaukee and Brooklyn are restricted in their ability to give up selections (Jrue Holiday trade for MIL, James Harden for BRK) and the Sixers’ future picks are all intact sans a 2025 first-rounder heading to OKC (Al Horford deal).
Tucker would welcome a trade to Philadelphia, per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Tucker has a good relationship with Morey from their time in Houston together.
Front offices around the league see the Rockets as “inconsistent” in their asking price for Tucker, who is in the final year of his contract and would certainly want to lock down an extension. The Rockets turned down a late 2020 first-round pick from the Timberwolves leading up the draft, though that was when they had hoped to place a contender around James Harden.
