It’s looking like Evan Mobley may begin the season as the team’s starting power forward.
The No. 3 overall pick showcased his mobileness during Summer League and as Kelsey Russo of The Athletic notes, if Mobley gets the nod alongside Jarrett Allen in the frontcourt, that means Kevin Love and Larry Nance Jr. will both come off the bench.
As for the backcourt, Russo envisions new addition Ricky Rubio coming off the bench, leaving Collin Sexton and Darius Garland to start alongside each other again.
More on the Cavaliers
- Third-year small forward Dylan Windler is facing a critical season in 2021-22. The former first-round pick has been unable to stay healthy after missing virtually no time in four years of college. “At some point, he’s got to produce,” one Cavs coach told Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. “He needs to stay healthy and become a consistent 3-point threat.”
- Sexton seems to realize that he will not be receiving a maximum contract offer from the Cavaliers or another franchise, Fedor explains on the Wine & Gold podcast. Sexton has been the subject of trade rumors for much of the offseason, though it appears that Cleveland is prepared to keep the former No. 8 overall pick on the team heading into the 2021-22 season.
- ICYMI: The Cavaliers were one of the teams that pursued Kelly Oubre before he signed a deal with the Hornets. The Knicks, Lakers, and Blazers were also among the clubs that had eyes for the wing.
