The Cavaliers were among the teams that presented an offer to Kelly Oubre before the wing signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Hornets, Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News relays.
It’s not clear what Cleveland offered Oubre but given its cap situation, it’s hard to assume it was above the mid-level exception (worth a starting salary of $9.8 million). Bondy notes that several other teams were in on Oubre, adding that the Knicks, Lakers, Clippers, Bucks, Nuggets, Nets, and Trail Blazers all made various offers.
More Cavaliers Rumors
- Collin Sexton and Cavaliers will begin talks on a contract extension, Evan Dammarell of Fear The Sword hears. Sexton, who is eligible to sign one this summer, has enjoyed his time in Cleveland and would like to remain with the organization long-term. It’s unclear what signing Sexton to an extension will cost the Cavaliers, though it’s worth noting that there were rumors that rival clubs were hesitant to trade for the 22-year-old because of the potentially lucrative contract they’d need to hand Sexton to secure him long-term.
- Darius Garland will be eligible for a contract extension following the 2021-22 season and if Sexton agrees to a long-term deal with the Cavs, it’s fair to wonder whether Garland trade chatter will heat up ahead of that looming inflection point. The former No. 5 overall isn’t untouchable in trade talks, though Cleveland would likely need a substantial package to let go of him, one rival executive tells FortyEightMinutes.
- Jarrett Allen‘s negotiations with the Cavs “never grew contentious,” Jason Lloyd of The Athletic writes. Cleveland inked Allen to a five-year, $100 million deal and although the center considered other suitors, he ultimately didn’t stray away from the franchise.
- If Kevin Love aims to receive a buyout, he may have to give up a substantial part of his salary. Lloyd (separate piece) hears that Love would likely have to consider walking away from $12-15 million if the Cavaliers were to consider a buyout arrangement. For what it’s worth, the power forward has given no indication that he’s willing to do that.
